The Boisen Institute Covenant
Reflecting Boisen's Psychodynamic Principles and the Centrality of Fellowship
                                          Â
We, members of the Boisen Institute, covenant together as students of the living human document. We seek to understand and serve the presence of Divinity, by whatever name one may address the Divine, which is revealed in the depths of human experience.Â
Â
We affirm that our calling is both theological and clinical - to unite faith, psychology, and care in the service of healing, discovery, and the recovery of soul. We believe that every crisis of mind or spirit carries meaning. What appears as disorder may, in truth, be the soul’s Heart-Cry for God and attempts at relational connection.Â
Â
Therefore, we approach human suffering not as pathology to be corrected, but as a mystery to be interpreted with reverence, insight, and compassion.Â
Â
We commit to the discipline of self-awareness, recognizing that the chaplain’s own inner life is the primary instrument of care.
Â
We live out this calling in Circles, the small communities that are the foundation, heart, and soul of the Boisen Institute. In these circles, we study our encounters and our inner responses, interpreting both through theological and psychodynamic reflection. Relationships become the crucible of growth, where grace arises through honest and disciplined engagement.
Â
Â
We covenant:Â
To treat one another with dignity and respect.
To guard always against behavior that is invasive, aggressive, or predatory.
To practice accountability that is compassionate and truthful.
To nurture an environment of safety, integrity, and trust.
To model, in our relationships, the care we offer to others.Â
To ground relationships in grace, humility, and love.
Â
We pledge to continue the vision Anton Boisen began: Reading the living human document with both scientific discipline and spiritual reverence; honoring the mystery of the soul and discovering in every person’s story the on-going revelation of the Divine.
